A visual instrument
Draw a line. Hear it loop. Flick a dot. Hear it pluck.
musicinkloop is two instruments in one app, for Android and iPhone. Everything you make stays in tune: the paper is a pentatonic scale, and the bounce frame is sixteen notes around the edge.
Paper
Height is pitch. Left to right is time. Nine colours are nine sounds: keys, pluck, bell, marimba, flute, strings, chime, bass, and 8-bit. A bass line, drums, and an arpeggio sit one tap away. You can switch the drawing to a grid, or to a round paper where the hand is time and out is up.
Bounce
Flick a dot. It flies in a straight line and bounces off the frame. Every wall is a guitar string; where it hits sets the note. Nine colours are nine guitars. Tap a dot to hold it; flick it again to send it off. Bounce is in the app, not in the browser.
In the browser
This site’s homepage is a sketchpad: draw, and a note sounds. Play in the browser opens the looping paper — the same instrument as the app, without bounce, songs, the gallery, or export.
